Kinship Caregiver Coalition Receives $10,000 Grant
DAYTON—The Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Center for Healthy Communities has announced that one of its programs, Kinship Caregiver Coalition, has received a $10,000 grant from the CareSource Foundation’s People’s Choice Grants program.
The foundation is part of CareSource, a nonprofit managed care company. Each quarter, the foundation contributes $10,000 to one nonprofit organization that is nominated and voted on by CareSource employees.
The Kinship Caregiver Coalition offers assistance to a relative, typically a grandparent, who takes in a child when the parent is either unable or unwilling to provide parental care due to death, domestic violence, incarceration, poverty and/or drug abuse. The Kinship Navigator Program supports more than 500 families and approximately 1,200 children a year.
“It is such an honor to receive a grant from the CareSource Foundation,” said Dionne Simmons, director of the Kinship Caregiver Coalition. “This will allow us to purchase backpacks and school supplies for children who attend the Kinship Family Fair on Saturday, Aug. 11.”
The funds left over will support families that find themselves in emergency situations.
“We’re excited to connect CareSource employees to the grant making process,” said Cathy Ponitz, executive director of CareSource Foundation. “Our employees were clearly touched by the work of the Kinship Coalition and understand the challenges emergency caregivers face.”
