Mt. Olive One-Stop Center hosting a Back-to-School Block Party for the Dayton community
Free back-to-school supplies, vaccines, haircut vouchers and more will be available
DAYTON, Ohio-The Mt. Olive One-Stop Center is hosting a Back-to-School Block Party for the Dayton community on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will provide free health screenings, including HIV/Hepatitis C testing, blood pressure and glucose screenings, Hepatitis A and B vaccinations and many other services for area residents.
The Mt. Olive One-Stop Center is a collaborative effort between Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the Substance Abuse Resources and Disability Issues (SARDI) Program within the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.
SARDI staff will be available to process online applications for the Ohio Benefit Bank, and the Center for Healthy Communities will be on hand to assist with processing applications for children's health insurance programs, including the new federal Healthy Children/Healthy Families Health Insurance Program, Medicaid and food stamps. Staff will also be distributing free haircut vouchers for Dayton-area school children living in Montgomery County through the Annual Back-to-School Barber and Stylist Cut-Off, sponsored by the city of Dayton and BJKids9. Mt. Olive church members will be distributing back-to-school backpacks, and SARDI staff will provide case management referrals to local organizations that provide clothing, furniture and toys to children in need.
The event will be held at the Mt. Olive One-Stop Center located at 502 Pontiac Ave., off Stewart Street in southwest Dayton. For more information, call (937) 723-9341.
The Mt. Olive One-Stop Center project is funded by a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
