"The Healer as Artist" Announces the People's Choice Awards
DAYTON, OHIO-Lisa Patterson, M.D., received the People's Choice Award at Wright State University School of Medicine's third annual art exhibit, "The Healer as Artist." An assistant professor of surgery and the associate director of trauma services at Miami Valley Hospital, Patterson's drawing in colored pencil of a masked surgeon received the most votes during the three-week exhibit.
The second place award was, "Of One Mind," a sculpture by Carol Levine, M.D., assistant professor of internal medicine. Third place was awarded to second-year medical student Bradley Harward, for his untitled, but functional, fountain.
The Founders' Award was presented to Erin McConnell, Year I medical student, for her poetry titled, "Peas."
Sixty-five entries were received from faculty, students, and staff. Mary White, Ph.D., associate professor of community health, Lynn McDonald, M.D., assistant clinical professor of community medicine, and Judi Engle, director of public relations, were the co-directors for the event. "Many members of our medical school possess artistic talents that are hidden behind busy schedules and demanding lives," explains McDonald. "We were delighted to share the creativity and vision of our health care community and get to know each other better," adds White.
The exhibit included art in several media: photography, engraving, drawing, pottery, and painting. The People's Choice Awards, were generously provided by McCallisters Art Supplies in Dayton.
