Fourth Year Electives for for Visiting Students

Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students into the senior elective program. Electives are for four calendar weeks and are available, space permitting, to full-time students in good academic standing at a medical school in North America accredited by either the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

We schedule our own students by early May and will know availability that month, at which time visiting students may phone to check on availability. The earliest date an elective may begin is July 1.

Students may apply for a maximum of four weeks. A visiting student must complete the top portion of our application, have the dean or authorized official from the home school complete the middle section, sign, and affix the school's seal. Section II itemizes the requirements for visiting students. The application should be supported by an up-to-date immunization record and photograph, and sent to the Visiting Student Coordinator at the address listed below.

Completed applications must be mailed to the Office of Student Affairs at least 60 days before the elective begins. We will obtain the approval of the department and confirm the elective's starting date, time, and location; notify the student about the approval (or non-approval) of the application; and confirm the decision in writing.

Students who are accepted for a visiting student rotation and decide not to accept it or to withdraw from it, are asked to notify the Visiting Student Coordinator at least one month prior to the start of the rotation.

We do not provide insurance to visiting students. If the student's school does not provide malpractice insurance, she or he will need to acquire it and provide proof of insurance as part of the elective application. We are unable to help if housing is a consideration.
