Director, Neurology Clerkship

Our primary goal is to introduce students to the educational experience in the clinical neurosciences of neurology, child neurology and neurosurgery. Students obtain basic skills in neurologic history taking, neurologic examination and clinical reasoning in localization. They are also taught to become familiar with common neurological problems encountered in primary care. The Neuroscience Clerkship (NRL-891) is given in the senior year for four weeks and is mandatory for all students.

The Division of Neurology has many teaching sites throughout the Miami Valley. These include the Dayton VA Medical Center (DVAMC), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center, Kettering Medical Center, Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, Good Samaritan Hospital and numerous private neurology practices. The DVAMC includes a modern sleep laboratory for patient evaluation and clinical research (offered as an elective course for fourth year medical students). The neurologists involved with neurology education consist of both faculty and volunteer physicians and all greatly enhance the students' experiences during their neurology rotations.
