Program Overview
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Wright State University is accredited and is one year in duration. The primary emphasis is on training fellows in: pain management and supportive care and clinical research. The primary teaching institutions are the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and Good Samaritan Hospital and Health Center (GSH), a large community hospital actively affiliated with Wright State University. In addition, fellows rotate at Children's Medical Center of Dayton and Hospice of Dayton (HOD). Formal conferences with enthusiastic staff participating from departments of hematology/oncology, geriatrics and internal medicine as well as various other health disciplines — such as pharmacy, nursing, social work, psychology and chaplaincy — provide an integrated learning experience in the study of Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Opportunities exist for attending one major conference during the training period. We expect fellows to become proficient in consultations, pain and symptom management, interdisciplinary care and patient-oriented research.
