Convocation & week one
Take the first step in your medical career

Mark your calendar for Sunday, August 2, 2009, for the first step of your medical education at Wright State University: Convocation and the White Coat Ceremony. Surrounded by family and friends in the spectacular Schuster Performing Arts Center, you will receive the symbol of your chosen profession — the white coat — and take your first oath of professional medical ethics.

Plan to arrive by 12:30 p.m. for photos. Family Orientation is 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Convocation Ceremony at 2 p.m.

All events are held at the Schuster Performing Arts Center, One West Second Street, in Dayton. Parking is available at the Schuster Center for $7. Several parking garages are located nearby (usually around a $5 charge), and free street parking is available on Sunday in downtown Dayton.

Convocation
2008 Convocation at the Schuster Center

The day after Convocation marks the start of Welcome week, the second step on the road to your medical career. Slated for August 3 through August 7 at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Welcome Week is your introduction to Wright State University and to the fun, enjoyment and rigors of medical school.

You will get an overview of the curriculum and enjoy tours of the campus, computer labs, libraries and the bookstore. You'll also receive your campus I.D. card and required parking permit. Professors, fellow medical students and medical school staff will brief you on subjects such as the Medical Student Honor Code, universal precautions, public safety at Wright State, financial aid, medical insurance and mental health services.

Learn teamwork on the Challenge Course

You'll also learn about dual-degree programs, volunteer opportunities and medical student clubs and organizations you can join. This week will include an introduction to our innovative teaching style, team-based learning.

Highlighting the week will be a day of team building on the Wright State Challenge Course, featuring an outdoor climbing and rappelling tower and a low ropes course.

Mark your calendar now for this not-to-be-missed week!
