Residency Program Overview
Our residency is a traditional three-year structured program
in clinical dermatology. We encourage clinical research. The Department of Dermatology opened in 1977. Since its inception,
we have accepted about two residents a year.
Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine is a community-based
program, i.e., there is no single university hospital. Similarly,
our dermatology residents train at multiple sites, with three main
patient care settings. Our residents participate in continuity
clinics at our practice site at Elizabeth Place and the VA Medical
Center and also see patients in clinics at the Children's Medical
Center of Dayton. We have inpatient consults at Good Samaritan
Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital and Children’s Medical Center.
Residents work with four fellowship-trained dermatopathologists and two fellowship-trained dermotologic surgeons in each year of training. In addition, residents have a didactic schedule that includes weekly dermatopathology lectures, a comprehensive visiting lecturer program, journal clubs, surgical lectures, kodachrome sessions, weekly Grand Rounds and board review sessions.

Applicant tips
We are looking for bright, energetic, motivated individuals who love to work hard, work as a team and want to learn. Our intention is to train future leaders in dermatology. We want people who expect nothing but excellence from themselves and those around them.
We will never discriminate against applicants who have performed prior residencies. We also will not discriminate against outstanding candidates who have trained overseas and at osteopathic medical schools.
Applications for 2011
We will accept two residents for a start date of July 1,
2011. To be considered for the 2011 program, applicants must apply
through the Electronic
Residency Application Service (ERAS). The
deadline for completing your application is October
31, 2009. Applications
not completed by that date will not be considered. Applicants selected
for interview will be offered a choice of two interview dates
with one date being in December 2009 and the other in January
2010.
Applicants who have not yet completed an internship are
encouraged to consider and apply for the transitional year
offered by the Kettering Medical Center (KMC). Matching with KMC
is not a requirement for acceptance to our residency. For
an overview of that program, visit the Kettering
Medical Center Transitional Year Program web site.
