Healthy Kids Active Kids Conference

100 teachers and youth leaders spent a day at Kettering’s Trout Arena playing and learning how to keep kids active. Presenters were teachers from Dayton and Kettering City Schools and the University of Dayton and staff from Children’s Hunger Alliance. Through juggling, jumping, and dancing, they learned about the importance of using both sides of their body for proper brain development. Some activities featured use of low cost materials and equipment found in the home or even in the trash. Others learned how to keep large groups of students moving and involved. Healthy snack suggestions were offered. Each participant received a bag of equipment to use in their classrooms and after school programs. Support for this program was provided by Ohio Action For Healthy Kids, The American Lung Association of Ohio and Wright State University Center for Healthy Communities. Descriptions of activities demonstrated throughout the day are posted below, along with links to .pdf versions of most of the handouts used.
